Have you ever been in the situation where you have emptied your electric airsoft rifle, and don't know what to do next? Well for some us, they would say that the logical thing to do is run for cover. But seriously, you can and probably will find yourself in this exact situation if you fail to plan for it. So it becomes a matter of what exactly can you do? For many airsoft players it becomes a challenge to try and carry 2 rifles. It is just tough to do. Even if you are able to do it, just how good is your mobility going to be? Will you drag your team down?
Many players do indeed find themselves in this position. So the obvious backup airsoft gun to have is a pistol, one that can be carried easily on the hip, or under the shoulders with a should holster. If you are doing a mil sim game, you'll probably want something mounted with a hip holster so you can get to it easily during play. The selection boils down to which type of gun will be the most logical to get?
Of the three types, probably the most chosen by experienced airsoft players is the gas airsoft pistol. It packs a heavy punch, and can still be used in a semi or fully automatic mode. But like with all gas powered guns, the problem is having to carry a bulky gas replacement canister, as well as the cost. So sometimes guys will go with a CO2 airsoft pistol to avoid this issue.
CO2 canisters are smaller, and will fit easily in a tactical vest or utility belt. My opinion is to get the green gas pistol, and just find some way to carry the canister with you, perhaps a padded pouch on your chest, and maybe a smaller canister.
Gas airsoft pistols can be expensive, but again, the better players like to have an AEG rifle, and a nice gas airsoft pistol at their side to complete their ensemble, and to take the advantage in their airsoft competitions.
